Teaching block printing is always a soul filling activity for me. There’s nothing like sharing the medium I absolutely love with others and having them get hooked!

As part of the Seattle Monorail Column art project I’ve recently taught several groups of youth and young adult classes in addition to my regular adult classes at Pratt Fine Arts Center in Seattle.

PUBLIC ART PROJECT!

I’m excited to announce that early summer 2024 the Seattle Monorail Services in conjunction with the City of Seattle will feature my artwork on nineteen of the columns from the city’s beloved monorail! As part of the project I have been teaching block printing classes at Pratt Fine Arts Center to underserved youth and young adults. The student artwork will be featured on 2-3 of the columns.

Twin Peaks and Me

In 1990, when Twin Peaks debuted, I was in my freshman year at The University of the Arts in Philadelphia. After graduating with a degree in Printmaking and Book Arts I moved to Seattle and then in a few years later I made North Bend WA (where Twin Peaks was filmed) my home and have been here ever since.

“Diane, 7:30 am, February twenty-fourth. Entering town of Twin Peaks. Five miles south of the Canadian border, twelve miles west of the state line. Never seen so many trees in my life. As W.C. Fields would say, I’d rather be here than Philadelphia.”

Mt Si! Our decision to move out to North Bend over two decades ago was a great one! I love looking at this mountain every day!

I realized I haven’t done a blog post in a long time!!

2021 has been extra rough in our home. It started with getting sick with Covid in January and for the last couple months we’ve been in an extremely difficult time with my son (who is now 20 and still profoundly affected by autism among other things).
The good news is my art is my sanity so I’ve constantly been producing new work! Here’s a little taste….

Strange times but art continues!!!

November and December are usually a very busy time for me with my art and even in the times of Covid it still is.

I am a part of the current featured show at Columbia city gallery, “Not on Mute”. The gallery is open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from noon until 5:00 and other days by appointment.
I have also just delivered art to Tsuga in Bothell, Art Gallery of Sno Valley in Snoqualmie and Gallery One in Ellensburg.

In addition to constantly making my own art I have gone back to teaching at Pratt after 7 months where everyone was figuring out how we do this.
I have taught a four week virtual class as well as a one day workshop. There is a learning curve but I’m really getting the hang of it since this will probably be the way art is taught for the for seeable future.
Pratt is launching an online art store just in time for the holidays. Not only will I have a page for selling my art but Trevor will have a page to sell his tote bags and cards this way. Link coming soon!
